Concrete Slab

Barndominium concrete slabs are similar to a conventional house in that they have a perimeter footing. The difference is that concrete piers are also used to support the steel columns.

Steel Frame

The steel frame is a stand alone structure and provides a "shell" for the interior framing. This way the interior walls are not weight bearing and provides greater flexibility for larger rooms.

Interior Framing

The interior wood framing is a box inside of a box so to speak. The living quarters inside is a stand alone structure which provides protection from building movement.

Insulation

Barndominiums are generally spray foam insulated which makes them energy efficient.

Advantages

Barndominiums are great for open floor plans and provide greater flexibilty to have vaulted ceilings. They are generally less expensive per sq. ft. since walls are not load bearing and less lumber is used.

Barndos are easily customizable

Adding lean to's, porches, or additions can help add that extra space or hang out area.
